I've been wondering about tires used for this sport.  They aren't sticky are they?  Are they hard rubber?  I guess I could google it now that I think about it, but this is the kind of thing a noob like me can ask in a group like this, I hope.

Good question!   As far as i know the usual setup for amateurs has been high grip for the front and used tires for the rear since they get torn up pretty quickly.  The Pros can get away with new tires front and rear since they have tire sponsors. 

I can't speak for everyone in Formula D, but the car we sponsor runs Maxxis MA-Z1 drift tires.

yeah, I would like to make drift tires as quickly as those drivers go through them
