I have a question for the masses out there and for the staff at IFO...
Bracket class rules read as follows:
Quote:
Handicap sportsman tree (.500) class for any RWD, AWD or FWD import or domestic sport compact vehicle. Any 4, 5, 6, 8 cylinder and 2 or 3 Rotor import manufacturer engine allowed. Air-cooled entries allowed. No restriction on power adder type or combination thereof. Any transmission allowed. Slicks or DOT tires allowed. Any type of exhaust allowed. Drivers responsible for their own dial in time.
If I interpret that correctly, an Eagle Talon(AWD, SC, domestic brand), Ford Focus (FWD, SC, domestic brand), 70's Dodge Colt(RWD, SC, domestic brand, imported) and Chevrolet Cobalt(another SC, FWD 'domestic') are great examples that don't or may not fit. However, an early 80's 300zx, swapped with supercharged Lexus V8, running a powerglide transmission with a trans brake does fit the current rules(might be damn good bracket car too).
I've been to a variety of events over the years of being involved on varying levels racing... and being a class that is designed to make it the driver's skill, not necessarily the amount of money in a car, or how fast it goes, shouldn't a bracket class be more open?
For example- when I go to an all Chevy event, they allow
any chevy body or chevy powered car run the event, because
they want more entries to increase the $$$. Same goes for an all Ford event.... generally, the ONLY class distinction they make at these events is two classes: electronics, meaning delay boxes, throttle stops, pneumatic shifters etc., and non-electronics- where basic rev limiters & trans brakes are still Ok, but many still race on foot-brake only, with the aid of a launch controller and maybe a shift light.
My suggestions: Allow any Import car with any engine/trans combo or any Domestic SC chassis car(not a tube chassis) with domestic SC engine, OR import manufacturer motor swapped, and also any Tube chassis car running an import mfg engine or domestic SC designted engine(i.e. ecotec, duratec... etc).... with any power-adders allowed as long as it passes technical inspection... it will bring in some of the swap cars, such as a 2JZ powered mustang, LS1 240SX, 4G63 powered T-bucket, rotary powered Porsche, a BBC Mercedes, chevy turbo ecotec altered, etc.... the competitor is still responsible for their own dial-in, and it may bring in some racers that otherwise just go to local bracket races with their oddball hotrods.
I'll simplify it as a list:
imported chassis(any)- any engine, transmission or powr adder (open to any drivetrain)
Domestic SC chassis- domestic SC motors or swapped import mfg motors only, any power adder (may need to come up with a list of legal SC engines)
manufactured(tube) chassis- domestic SC motors or import mfg motors only, any power adder (same list as above)
... they all must pass tech, no delay boxes, pneumatic shifters, or throttle stops, etc. (i.e. 'no electronics')
add an 'electronics' bracket class if there is interest?
Being a bracket race, it still comes down to the driver....
Can they dial the car, cut a light, and run the number? .....or devise another way to put the competition on the trailer in a legal manner?
Then again, maybe I'm out on a limb here, and nobody wants more competitors in this class at these events.
